A great resource!
I reach for this cookbook again and again when I want to make a phyllo item. There are basic recipes for Greek classics like Spanokopita, Kreatopetes, Sambusik, and Baklava plus innovative reworkings from other cuisines, such as a great Shrimp Toast and a Chinese Fire Cracker dessert as well as Southwestern/TexMex style (try the phyllo quesadillas or chimichangas), phyllo calzones, savory and sweet strudels, etc. This book has loads of folding suggestions, going well beyond the typical triangles and rolls to include crinkle cups and several different tart shells, as well as instructions for using phyllo to encase and bake entree portions of chicken or fish or how to wrap and bake brie in phyllo. A great ressource!

Final Atonement/Doug Orlando Mystery
Published in Paperback by Onyx Books (December, 1992)
Author: Steve Johnson
Average review score:

An Authentic New York Dectective Story
All mysteries with gay characters should be this "real". The book's central character, Doug Orlando, struggles with integrating his life as a gay man and a dectective while solving a crime that seems taken from a New York Post headline. The book is fascinating for anyone who has an interest New York City as the situations and characters are written with an affection for the city as well as a clear-eye for the foibles of New Yorkers. Outside New York, the truth, honesty, and excitement of the story will hold readers wherever they live. Quality mysteries don't come around very often. Well written mysteries with a central character who is gay are rare indeed. Both of the Doug Orlando stories will be a wecome addition to any mystery reader's collection.

Finding My Way: A Journey to Manhood
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (January, 2001)
Author: Nevlynn L., Sr. Johnson
Average review score:

Against All Odds
Nevlynn Johnson understands that his very life is a gift from God, and in his book he shares with readers how, through the grace of God, he is alive today. Johnson was raised by his young mother, and spent much of his childhood in Michigan, in close proximity to his mother's family many of whom were dysfunctional. In addition, he lacked a close relationship with his father, and was tempted by the call of life on the streets. Still, he survived. His mother raised him with a strength that defied her own upbringing. She was raised by two alcoholic parents, yet she provided her own son with all the love and wisdom she had to give. As the story of Johnson's life progresses, we follow him throughout his school years, military life, marriage, parenthood, and most importantly, his journey to develop a relationship with God. Through his successes and failures, he honestly shares his experiences, while taking responsibility for his part and understanding but not denouncing others for theirs.

Johnson is a man with a story to tell, and he shares it candidly and openly to anyone who reads his book, FAITH, COURAGE, and WISDOM: A JOURNEY TO MANHOOD. I appreciated the manner in which Johnson took responsibility for his mistakes instead of blaming his difficult circumstances or others. This is a story that will touch the hearts of readers and truly serve as an inspiration to many.

Five Star Food: Recipes to Delight Your Family and Amaze Your Friends
Published in Paperback by Pacific Pr Ltd (November, 2000)
Author: Eve Johnson
Average review score:

Not just for Canadians!
This cookbook contains contest-winning recipes from the _Vancouver Sun_. The five sections cover recipes with common BC ingredients, traditional British recipes, Asian-inspired dishes, Italian food, and chocolate. All the recipes are relatively simple to prepare, and the "success tips" down the side of the page ensure they'll come out good. But the real reason to buy this cookbook isn't for the salmon with roasted red pepper sauce or lamb chops with chutney. The recipe for "Chocolate-Dipped Cappuccino Shortbread" makes _Five Star Food_ deserve a place on your cookbook shelf.
